Watched ST last night, reaaally didn’t like it. Science fiction, just like you said, has this mission of spreading a smart vision of what’s have been going on in the world. Has the mission to makes us think, and the movie was, like you said, made for cheerleaders! I watch some tv shows like The Big Bang Theory and they always make fun of these movies and all other people who try to reach a ’smart concept’ in their shows/movies/speechs but end up messing everything. I don’t know, maybe someday they remake this w/ Michael Bay and maybe we can have some really smart-time watching it. Who knows.. it’s really been a while since we don’t have any food for though. In conclusion, like your review and I’m still thinking about this Nero question, I’m starting to believe it was a Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman mistake on the script.

You’re probably close to my age (41) so we both missed the original series except on reruns. I am clearly a Next Generation fan and watched every episode. I have seen all the Trek movies. I enjoyed most of DS9 and bailed on Enterprise after about 4 episodes.

The Star Trek “message” is definitely missing from this movie but it is great entertainment and it is still a good story. That said, I accept your criticism (not that it matters).

That said, if I look at all the movies (only) I’d say that the new film may push Khan from the #1 spot. However, I need to see it a second time before that happens.

One of the most critically honest critiques I’ve seen so far. And you do give good reasons and preferences for them. As you said, they’re targeting the younger generations (and will no doubt make money from them). As for the Trekkies, do you think any director, cast & crew, young or old can satisfy both the old Trekkies and new viewers at the same time? I don’t think they’d make as much money trying to satisfy one group over another.

But yeah, I grew up watching and loving godzilla back in the 70’s & 80’s. They fucked it up big time with godzilla for me if you know what I mean.

I like your review and I agree with the Scotty and the birth scene.

I think Spock comes out of the black hole at the same age. He’s old and an ambassador and Nero is just a young captain of a mining ship.
