Your comments will probably get full of advices of diets, but honestly I think you look great! But anyway, as you really want to start a diet, there’s 3 things I do that never fail to lose weight – 5 cups of water everyday, lots of frise salad and a lot of exercise (and no I’m not talking about gym here, there’s many pleasurable ways to lose weight *blink* ) and I’m on a diet right now, so will be fun to follow your progress. I’ll comment mine here too, we’ll get there Steve!

Stay away from ultimate frisbee. Believe it or not, it actually leads to more weight gain. True story.

    Good luck on your NYC20.
    Some tips I have picked up are;
    1. Don’t eat at the computer.
    2. Don’t buy ready made salads because they put additives in them. Always buy fresh and prepare your own food.
    3. Don’t eat in restaraunts as much anymore. Try once a week, then eventually once a month. And if you do have to go out then order carefully and ask for a smaller portion of the food.
    4. Only eat when you are hungry.
    5. Chew your food slowly.
    6. Stop eating when you are full.
    7. Drink a lot of water with lemon or green tea hot or cold and cut soda right out of your diet.
    8. Don’t give in to temptations.
    9. Cook at home. Have dinner parties there instead of dining out.
    10. eat as many fruits and veggies as you can. They will never harm you.

Take care!! Your twitter pal, Ramona. (RamonaLeigh)

i’m behind you 100% brah. i know all about those “NY 20″ though in my case it’s more like a “NY 15.” like you mentioned, this past winter in particular was kinda harsh and created the perfect environment for tons of comfort food eating. plus, as someone who just loves checking out food spots, it doen’t help my case. i’ve always been pretty active, but lately, i’ve been doing exactly what you were talking about regarding being extra conscious of food intake, jogging/biking and not hittin the pub scene so much (was never a drinker to begin with, but it just doesn’t benefit me in any way). just give it like 4-5 weeks, stay motivated and you’ll be exactly where you want to be. good luck!

Almost 4 years ago, I went to college. When I arrived I weighed about 175-180 pounds. Now that I’ve graduated and will soon be on to grad school, I’m at 220.

So, to sum up, I feel your pain and I will be going through similar crap.

I hear ya Steve. I hovered around 150 my whole life and then found myself at 185 after a depressing doctor’s visit last year. Attribute it to a combo of heavy drinking in ‘07, work that keeps me at a desk and, um, age (my diet wasn’t so bad — maybe a bit high on the bread & cheese).

Since about November last year, I’ve cut out fried/fatty foods (except for rare, special occasions), only drink about once or twice a month and hit the gym three times a week. I’ve lost 10 lbs since then, though I’d like to get down to about 165 (I’m guessing you’re about the same height/proportions as me, but 155 seems too thin at this point).

So yeah, let’s check back in a few months and see where we’re at!! Good luck!

Lose It is actually a pretty cool app. I tend to pack on a few over the holidays so I used it for a few weeks. I set it to losing 2lbs a week and it gave me a calorie budget of 677. At first I thought it was going to leave me a bit hungry considering it’s difficult to find a complete meal that’s under 3 or 400 calories, but i kept up with low calorie meals and snacks throughout the day. Exercise gives some of your balance back so that motivates you to do it so you can eat more if you go over the budget and are hungry. The weight did indeed come off, especially with the exercise. If you can remain disciplined then i highly recommend using the app.

I say, take the blog on the road..isn’t there a nikey shoe thing that can go with your iphone?….good luck! Just keep rockin’ the purple you’ll always be cool. :) Is it a myth about how much walking you have to do in NY then? Just wondering.

  9. HM Says:

I know you must think I´m obsessed but that´s it for the “NYC Pizza-tour” video, right? 178? What´s your height? Actually I had the same weight and lost 20 pounds by changing my diet… So good luck!!! Go, Steve, go!!!!

  10. Steve Isaacs Says:

HM: I’m 5′10″. I am still totally going to do the pizza tour, just might wait a week or two :)

  11. chance Says:

  12. Steve Isaacs Says:

Chance: Ahh yes – great idea – I’m a’ gettin’ on the Puke Train!

  13. leora tobias Says:

first, you are not as fat as you THINK. you need to see yourself thin! (you still have a lovely face – as mom would say).
about salads – IT’S THE DRESSINGS THAT CAN KILL YOU THERE. and ate them at lunch.
NO BREAD = Do Not Hate Me! DON’T EAT ANYTHING WHITE. Trust Me. this means pizza, dude. cheese is fatten, yeast, sugar.
Portion control. eat 1/2 of what you usually do.
don’t eat pass 6:30 at night.
BEER KILLS = Sugar, yeast, etc. – A red wine, is okay if you are having brown rice, salmon and veggies.
You must eat BREAKFAST- protein with in the first hour of waking up. try almond butter on frozen gluten free vans waffles with apple butter.Yummy!
Ramona had some very good behavioral hints that will help.
remember it took you 2 years to gain this weight, lose it slowly and surely- say (2 pounds a week) and keep it off.
weight train – more muscle needs more fuel to function. this will speed up your metabolism. make your body a fat burning machine. NO SODA! no many chemicals. most importantly being happy and not using food to replace LOVE.
feel free to ask me questions. Good Luck. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Of course! It was the winter! I’ve the same problem with that “winter-mood”. But I don’t hate it. Because getting back in the shape is no sweat if you care about it. Besides, you’re not a fat-ass. Come on. Good to see you, man.

  15. Erroneus Says:

    Love the ending! :)

And no dude you don’t look fat at all, but if you feel like you have a few to many pounds, you should go for it.

Personally I’ve been struggling with overweight the last few years and has finally realized that 5-6 healthy meals a day is the way to go, because it keeps the digestion going and keeps you from eating big meals and unhealthy meals :)

  16. Valonika Says:

    Great video! And funny :-)
Last year I had health problems and I gained weight. Then I
went to Los Angeles (I am from Czech Republic) and I lose about 6 Kg (about 13 pounds) for 1 month. I don’t understand it, because I didn’t eat very healthy, but it is true that I ate less than at home. After returning back home, I have gained weight a little, but still I would need another trip to America :-)

  17. Pamela Says:

Switch to light beer. My boyfriend did and dropped about 25 pounds in 2 weeks with no added exercise. He tells me that Amstel Light and Redhook’s Slim Chance are tasty light beers.
