Yes, my hair was going bonkers yesterday. I call this my “purple homeless guy” look.

How is that you, a major proponent of the iPhone, has a site that won’t play your vids on *my* iPhone?!? Damn, nyukka!
March 10th, 2009 at 9:08 am
Chad: You can play them, but you have to go to YouTube. If you search “steveisaacstv” from the iPhone YouTube app it should pull them all up. It’s not me, it’s a flash/iPhone thing. If YT wasn’t such a pain in the ass, I’d use them for the vids here, but Vimeo is way better to deal with on the day to day and gives me lots more options for serving up the vids.

While your spoiling the movie for me, I’m going to turn the volume down and get started here.
I’m glad that you liked it. I know what high expectations you had going in, and the fact that you liked it speaks volumes. Do you recommend seeing it on IMAX if possible? Do you know what the Weekend gross is?
March 10th, 2009 at 9:50 am
Michael: Weekend gross was 55 million, below expectations (“300″ grossed 70 million). Yes, I’d say see it on IMAX, it was pretty kick ass on the BIG screen. Hopefully the video shouldn’t spoil anything up until the “SPOILERS” text shows up

I have to agree 100% about the ending. I actually have not read the graphic novel, but wanted to see the movie anyway. I would definitely be interested in reading it now. But yes, the destruction of NYC didn’t really seem to be all that big of a deal at the end. None of their loved ones died, or if they did, we didn’t hear about it. In fact there was no attachment at all between the characters and the people of NYC when they were destroyed. And I agree also about the carnage. It just looked like a bunch of empty buildings, although, perhaps that’s being true to the science. Maybe the human flesh would vaporize in that situation.
Anyway – great review. Thanks.

I enjoyed it. I just read the book a few months ago so I’m still pretty new to the material, but the movie fulfilled my expectations nicely. My only real complaint was the fact they gave away the whole mystery in the first scene.
After a week to reflect, though, I’m not sure the story stands alone as a movie very well. We went with a guy who hadn’t read it and he was totally confused. He enjoyed it, but it was tough for him to follow the plot and really care about the characters. It would’ve made an outstanding mini-series on HBO or something. There’s definitely enough content there.

the bootlegg i got was crap….so i actually went to the theatre…..i was never into the comic….but the movie totally wasnt what i was expecting….i thought it was waaaay too long and drawn out….i did love the special effects…and the angles and viewpoints how they filmed it all….rorshach was the shit!!! amazing character…..WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY 2 much blue smurk dick…..not enuff blue titties……hell more of miss jupiters (flawless body she has) ……basically the trailers showed me a completely different movie than the one i went and saw…..but i did enjoy most of it…..UC gives watchmen 1 thumb up…and 1 thumb down =P

Saw it at the IMAX in Manchester, England. Queued for 30 minutes before to get a good seat as the last film I’d seen in IMAX was funnily enough “300″ and I was stuck right down the front.
You’ve summed up my thoughts pretty well, great film but why change the ending ? I think he could have pulled it off if he’d put his mind to it, seems like a pretty talented guy.

Saw the film on Saturday and will be going again this Friday, both were with/will be with people who have absolutely no idea what the story is about. My dad thought it was great, admitting that it took him about an hour to get a feel of what was going on, but he thought it was fantastic. I think that they should’ve made it a full 3 hours to properly tie it all together in the end since they were obviously going for complete accuracy with the scenes, etc. The song selection couldn’t have been more perfect, and while the score worked well while watching the film, it isn’t something that I’d like to sit and listen to for my own personal entertainment. Overall, I give it a solid A+ and I can’t wait to see it again on Friday. Hopefully there won’t be any 6 year olds in the theater this time.

I also thought they glossed over the law banning costumed heroes. I remember hearing about it before the movie, never read the graphic novel, and thought that aspect sounded interesting. Then they mention it like once and quickly in the movie.

Whilst I found the film all engrossing, I have the exact opposite view about the music. I know the song choice largely fitted chronologically, but they spoilt it a bit for me, being songs which are so overused they didn’t really hold me in the scene. Liked the incidental music, shame there wasn’t just a whole film score. Loved the film though, would happily have gone back in and watched it again after an hour of “digestion”. What’s this I hear about an extra disc for the DVD with the Pirate strand??

something that stands out to me about Watchmen is the amazing character development; they do a great job making each person in that movie a whole, unique person

The sex scene onboard ‘Archie’ between Nite Owl and Silk Spectre with “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen playing in the background was one of the sexiest pieces of film I’ve ever beared witness to…seriously.
March 17th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Overall, amazing. I believe the film redefines the genre of comics/movies. The background of each hero was well done showing the human flaws in each, even Dr. Manhattan. The ending could have been expanded a bit to show the aftermath and “rebirth” a bit better. It was almost as if the studio execs got their two cents in during this portion.

Great review Steve.
I really enjoyed the movie as well. I’ve never read the graphic novel so I had kept an open mind and had no expectations. What Ozy did (at the end) pissed me off! I was told (after the movie) the ending was different than what is in the graphic novel. My boyfriend has seen it twice and loves it. A friend of mine, that read the graphic novel, and saw the movie and said she absolutely loved it. I’d probably go again if my bf wants to see it a third time. Otherwise, I’ll watch it when my bf buys the DVD.
I highly recommend this movie.
